And just like that we are starting in-depth! It feels like only a week ago that I was teaching myself the basic chords of the ukulele, and only yesterday that I was performing in front of a large crowd for the first time.
This year I am going to be studying spoken word poetry, and developing my leadership/mentorship skills. I decided to do spoken word as my study this year because I didn’t study it last year, and I think that this can help me start a routine of writing on a regular basis. I believe that this will help me pursue my passion further, and take my leadership and mentorship skills to a higher level.
My mentor is Jacob Gebrewold, a poet and business man who has worked with previous talons for spoken word and leadership before. I am excited and looking forward to working with him! We haven’t set a schedule for when we are going to meet, however it will probably be bi-weekly sometime on the weekends. I’m not sure what Jacob has in mind for what we’re going to be covering in our meetings, however I hope to strengthen my diction and use of language when writing poetry.
For my end of year presentation, I am planning to perform again, and depending on how much time I’m given, I can probably perform either one or two pieces!
